My First Wreck

Well, what more can I say? I experienced my very first car accident on Saturday, Nov. 8th, and hope to never experience another one in my lifetime. Mine was relatively minor, and I don't know how people get through a major one - no fun.

Long story short, I was driving straight, a woman turned left in front of me and wasn't looking at all. I kept waiting for her to look my way but she never did, so at the last minute I swerved and tried to avoid a collision but couldn't make it. So, we collided and my front passenger bumper is messed up...her car had far more damage, but thankfully everyone was okay. In that split second before it happened, I just had a quick prayer for Derek, as he was my only passenger and was on that side of the car. He was very scared, cried, and had larger eyes than I've ever seen on him, but he was physically fine. After the police/EMT arrived to check things out and take a report, I noticed that Derek was still crying in the van. When I asked him if something was hurt, he said "No, but now I can't go to my friend's birthday party!" Yep, we were on our way to a birthday party and he had to miss it. If that was the worst thing he was worried about, I knew we were okay. Ha ha!

So far it's been a smooth process getting everything lined up with their insurance, and we're in a rental van for a couple of weeks. Sadly, the kids are very excited about the rental van since it's much nicer than our current ride...they might actually be sad to get our car back. ha ha! What I find so interesting is that almost a week later, the glass and a few car parts are still sitting in the middle of the road where the accident happened...is that normal??

Ouchie. Recently somebody hit my car and nobody was in either car when it happened. You can read about it on my blog somewhere. Glad you are okay.

Glad you guys were OK Janene.... You would have LOVED the accident I was in back in '93, in Austria.. I was driving with my boss and her two teenage kids to Italy, and in the Austrian Alps on the autobahn she flipped the car end over end doing about 95 mph... We al crawled away from it OK, but the car was completely totaled and everyone who stopped around us thought for sure we'd all be dead.... Good times!
